Last Tuesday people around the world celebrated the pre-Lent festival known as Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, Carnival, or Krnjeval here in Split. The people in Split put on an impressive celebration despite the rainy weather. It may not have had the festive colors and elaborate costumes of Rio de Janeiro or Venice, but it sure beat any Mardi Gras I've seen before. [...]

We started out the evening at the museum in Split's old city hall. Last weekend we left our beach house for the city. We decided it was time for a new apartment closer to town, so we moved to Varoš, an old suburb of Split known for its small and narrow winding streets just outside the city walls.
